Unilateral Above-the-Knee Amputee - Descending a Curb

Descending a curb without a walker, crutch, or cane, is an advanced activity, requiring strength, control, and confidence. It should be first done only with an assistive device.

Instructions:
  1. Approach the curb.
  2. Lead with the prosthesis, stepping off the curb with it.
  3. Make sure the prosthetic knee is locked in full extension before applying weight to the prosthesis.
  4. Shift weight to prosthesis and step down with "sound" leg.
